Hattori thought everything was fine, until Hakuba started to thrash, claw and push. He had to lean forward to stop the blond from falling off his back and into another car. He cursed and let go, moving to pin the other against his own car and looked him dead in the eye. That was when he noticed they were dilated and he cursed a second time; he was drugged. He chewed on his bottom lip, keeping him pinned so he couldn’t hurt himself or Hattori.

“Hakuba listen!” He gently shook the other. “Ya have been drugged, if ya try an’ drive ya will likely ge’ us both killed!” He tried to reason with him. “Who ever drugged ya is on their way. Ya can’ run like this, so imma carry ya, okay? I will come back fer yere key’s, bu’ ya need ta calm down an’ le’ me help ya!”

The blond detective froze when he was pinned against the car, for a moment disoriented and shocked. That scent was so familiar. That voice. He knew it. Hakuba shook his head. Of course he knew it– it was Hattori Heiji, his rival and colleague. He took in a deep breath, chest heaving against the other, and looked away, scanning the dimly lit street with panic.

“Doesn’t matter if we run,” Hakuba said, voice and body shaking. “I need the keys. You don’t understand… I need the keys… and the… the sample…”  He struggled against Hattori again, trying to get into his pockets – but of course he’d emptied those all out onto the concrete just minutes ago. “Where… where is everything? Where did it go? Where was it taken? Hattori, you don’t understand!"

It was the fear that motivated him primarily, but not so much that of having lost the keys, the drug dealers that were after him, or even the Osakan that had filled him with anxiety on more than one occasion… it was the fact that he couldn’t keep a grip on his mind that really terrified him. There were the lights, everything kept moving, and he had to fight. He had to. Sneering, he tried to push Hattori away, using the rental car as leverage, throwing every bit of weight that he had into it.
