It\u2019s cool enough that I wanted to share it.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/2b2dc9d5f632ca11c59590631a3c5c0f\/tumblr_inline_novaapPvVV1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s called <b>DesignDoll (website <a href=\"http:\/\/terawell.net\/terawell\/\">here<\/a>)<\/b> and it\u2019s a program that lets you shape and pose a human figure pretty much however you want.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a <b>trial version with <i>no expiration date<\/i><\/b> that can be<br \/>\ndownloaded for <b>free<\/b>, as well as the \u201cpro license\u201d version priced at $79.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve only had the free version for two days so far, so I\u2019m not an expert and I<br \/>\nhaven\u2019t figured out all of the features yet, but I\u2019ve got the basics down. The<br \/>\nwebsite\u2019s tutorials are actually pretty helpful for the basics, as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/terawell.net\/terawell\/?page_id=56\"><\/p>\n<p>Here<\/a>\u2019s the page for download<\/b>, which has a list of the<br \/>\nfeatures available in both versions. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><b>There are three features the free version <i>doesn\u2019t<\/i> have: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can\u2019t save OBJ files for export<\/li>\n<li>Can\u2019t download models and poses from Doll<br \/>\nAtelier (a sharing site for users; note that the site is in Japanese, though)<\/li>\n<li>It can\u2019t load saved files<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The third one means that if you make a pose, save it, and<br \/>\nclose the program, <i><b>you can\u2019t load that<br \/>\npose\/modified model later<\/b><\/i>. You have to start with the default model. I<br \/>\nfound that out when I tried to load a file from the day before (this is why<br \/>\nreading is important\u2026). Whether saving your modifications (and downloading models and poses) is worth $80 is up to you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>But<\/i>, the default<br \/>\nmodel is pretty nice and honestly if all you\u2019re looking for is a basic pose reference<br \/>\nit should work fairly well as it is.\u00a0Here\u2019s what it looks like:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/eee67567481fa65fb6da766792a8f34f\/tumblr_inline_novaqupR361rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s a <b>pose tag<\/b><br \/>\nthat lets you drag each joint into place and rotate body parts. The torso and<br \/>\nwaist can be twisted separately, and it seems like everything pretty much<br \/>\nfollows the range of movement it would have on an actual human. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/a3415e24da0f8125668c67f54bbe5feb\/tumblr_inline_novatdStWa1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Even the entire shoulder area is actually movable along with the joint! See, like how the scapular area of the back raises with the arm:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/55be1d2d2aea84dd142cbd310f9064fb\/tumblr_inline_nox8glDqL71rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The <b>morphing tag<\/b><br \/>\nis one of the coolest features, in my opinion. It lets you pick and choose from<br \/>\na library of pre-set forms for the head, chest, arms, legs, etc. It has some more realistic body shapes in addition to more anime-like ones. Don\u2019t like the<br \/>\noptions there? Mix a few to get what you want! Each option has a slider that<br \/>\nlets you blend as much or as little as you want into the design.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/b39c738db340550ceeaa67a6b0d199d2\/tumblr_inline_nox9khrrRM1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>So you, too, can create beautiful things like kawaii<br \/>\nMuscle-chan!!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/a84013e45db6c947e60e9b6fda0e1505\/tumblr_inline_novas1uKZh1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The <b>scale tag<\/b><br \/>\nlets you mess with the proportions and connection points of different joints. This<br \/>\nfeature combined with the morphing feature not only allows more body shape<br \/>\nvariations, but it also means that you can do things like make a more digitigrade<br \/>\nmodel if you want. (The feet only have an ankle joint, but for regular human poses that\u2019s all that you really need, so whatever.)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/5b5af66b36ff04763fb0794e765e0ce2\/tumblr_inline_novaslngKi1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Or you can make a weird chubby alien-like thing with giant<br \/>\nhands and balloon tiddies if that\u2019s more your thing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/5aa4410efd1c412d2780a82ace338623\/tumblr_inline_nox8fvKjWu1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The ability to <b>pose<br \/>\nhands<\/b> to the extent it allows is far more than I could have hoped for from<br \/>\na free program. Seriously, <b>you can change the position of <i>each finger joint individually<\/i><\/b>, as well as how spread out the fingers are from each other<i>. <\/i>Each crease on the diagram below is a point of movement, and the circles are for spread between fingers.<i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/03776493d843a2de4431c0e557306a2e\/tumblr_inline_nox8mw6QVy1rjhn0z_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>And to make it a bit more convenient, <b>there\u2019s a library of pre-set hand poses<\/b> you can pick from as well, and then change the pose from that if you like.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In both versions, you can also <b>import OBJ files<\/b> from other places for the model to hold, like if you wanted to have them hold a sword or something.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Basically, this program is awesome and free and you should<br \/>\ntotally check it out if you want a good program for creating pose references.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I just wanted to add a little more to this. If you have trouble figuring out how light sources work in your drawings this also allows you to choose where to have a light source.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/0142f2ff3c042025f63424d186e52184\/tumblr_inline_nvi5ynCRjK1rwzht3_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>That shaded ball on the left is your light source. You can see how moving the point changed the shadow cast.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/202a95a24d624262bda79a21f2f3e620\/tumblr_inline_nvi5z0bMwZ1rwzht3_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Oh and all those other nifty looking things in that bottom bar there, yeah it\u2019s what you think. You can change the model color to one of these presets or even customize your own palette.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/c4153b0803097c45884f6450696f382b\/tumblr_inline_nvi62vtEr41rwzht3_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Plus for all you lovely people who want something a little more simplified to use as a pose reference<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/a88ee35c313d3a79e9a8c2cf61233aff\/tumblr_inline_nvi65rU4Kn1rwzht3_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>You can turn your model into the classic wire frame.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Why reblog this?
