If passed, it would replace current US Copyright law.\u00a0There isn\u2019t any bill yet, but the Copyright Office has issued its recommendations for one. Their Report is 234 pages long and is very complicated, so it\u2019s risky to try reducing it to a few words. But here\u2019s a <i>summary of its basic features<\/i>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It would <b>void<\/b> your Constitutional right to the EXCLUSIVE CONTROL of YOUR work.<\/li>\n<li>It would effectively <b>reverse<\/b> the default premise of copyright law; which means\u2026<\/li>\n<li>It would make the<b> public\u2019s right to use your work its defining goal<\/b>; which means\u2026<\/li>\n<li><b>You would have to make your work available to the public<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>You would have to do this by registering every picture you want to retain the rights to with for-profit registries.<\/li>\n<li>Unregistered work would be considered legally <b>\u201corphaned.\u201d<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Orphaned work would be <b>available<\/b> for commercial infringement by \u201cgood faith\u201d infringers.<\/li>\n<li>Good faith infringers would be anyone who believed they had made a <b>\u201creasonably diligent,\u201d<\/b> but <b>unsuccessful effort to find you<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Infringers could also <b>ALTER<\/b> your work and copyright the \u201cderivative works\u201d in their own names.<\/li>\n<li>This would affect all visual art: <b>drawings, paintings, sketches, photos, etc.; past, present and future; published and unpublished; domestic and foreign.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>It would include family snapshots and any picture or work you ever put on the Internet.<\/li>\n<li>The Copyright Office acknowledges that this would pose special \u201cchallenges\u201d for visual artists\u2026<\/li>\n<li><b><i>But they conclude that it\u2019s in the public interest for your work to be available for anyone to use.<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Copyright Office has also recommended the following:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mass Digitization of the world\u2019s intellectual property by corporate interests.<\/li>\n<li>Extended Collective Licensing, a form of socialized corporate licensing that would replace voluntary agreements between artists and clients.<\/li>\n<li>A Copyright Small Claims Court to handle the expected flood of orphan works lawsuits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2014&gt; The deadline is This Thursday, July 23, 2015\u2033 &lt;\u2014<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>\u2013 WHAT CAN WE DO?
